Paint Party Friday 16/2, Good, bad and ugly

 I pulled this quote
"Beauty is whatever gives joy."
Edna St.Vincent Millay
off my side bar  as a starting point!

Coffee, home brewed with Starbucks
beans from Costco!
Gives me great joy!
It has always been an indulgence,
even during the worst of times!!

Obviously Color  also fills me with joy too!!
Except I don't really like the two purple flowers
in this acrylic!! Help me out!
Any suggestions to make it cohesive?
Burst of Summer
Cupcake, and her hubby Beardo give me more joy than one mother deserves!
I am truly blessed to have a creative, amazing, kind son in law
who treats me like gold and a daughter who's a best friend!

This compilation is two photos spliced together
on Microsoft paint program!
Have you ever seen a guy with a beard like that who jogs?
Yeah, I haven't  either!!
We had quite a chuckle about that this week!
Some beard hairs are now seven inches long.
Cupcake keeps the ruler near by to
measures it at least once a week!!
She loves her furry man!

It's kind of a trade off, instead of shaving
he has to shampoo and condition his beard!

Do you like beards?

Seems the men are more enamored
with them than the women!
Notice how well he blends in
with my art!!
We're cool like that!!
Inside Summer
Burst of Summer and Inside summer,
 are done on canvas boards.

I really don't like the above  painting at all!!
It drives me nuts everytime
I walk by it!
So I replaced it with this one!!
Which is "Inside Summer" framed!
Unfortunately the orange flowers
were cut out completely!!

This week I discovered
that  some paintings
look  UG-LY  when edited!!
THIS color edit makes me nauseous!!
It reminds me of those mismatched
crocheted quilts. The ones
with wool from
every era all blended together
with no rhyme or reason.
This one doesn't do anything for me either.
But at least it's not as bad as the one above!
 This  is okay!!
Some of the colors mesh a bit better!
It's still strange for my eye!!

This one I don't mind! Would I hang it?  Probably not!!
The color edits can be a comedy of errors....

I finished  a few cute animals, and a word bird this week,
but I'll wait to post them.
Don't want to put you on  sensory overload!!

Be sure to check out all the other
fabulous artist at Paint Party Friday!!
Join in and play along too!!
Everyone who creates is welcome!
Have a great weekend!
Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian Friends!!

More Sometimes

I had so much fun  gathering thoughts of things that happen sometimes
last Monday! I thought it would be fun to continue this Monday.
The compilation of  things that happen sometimes are made up of thoughts,
things I've read, and conversations I've had during my week.
Gomez the tortoise in all his color glory, although not my best work,
is here to break the visual monotony of  my thoughts!
Play along if you like!Tell me so in the comments!
 What do you think sometimes?

Sometimes you can know a person intimately
for a few decades still not know their deepest darkest secrets!

 Sometimes you can envy someone,
to  find out their life is actually  a mess!
Sometimes you know things you truly wish you never knew!

Sometimes you avoid conversations knowing
it could cause a huge drama!!
Sometimes all you can do to get through tough
times is truly have faith better days are ahead!

Sometimes things aren't as you expected,
however they turn out better in the end
than you ever thought possible!
Sometimes we think we know a person,
it turns out we never really did!

Sometimes people are so petty you have to let your
mind wander so you don't absorb the bad energy!!
Sometimes you don't call a person for a long time,
and you don't really know why. You just have nothing to say!

Sometimes you chase money hoping to find
happiness only to find it was actually a dead end!

Sometimes people have old faces, but they are emotionally
immature and act like children when things don't go their way!!

Sometimes you just want to play and
forget about all the duties life puts forth!

How about you....finish this sentence.....Sometimes?

Summer of Color week Three, Hobie and Chase

Check out the scrumptious  Summer of Color
This weeks Ice Cream inspirations is Baseball Nut,
consisting of Black Raspberry and Cashews.
Meet Hobie and Chase my third week contribution!

Meet Hobie
There are no room for mistakes during this process...
It's a one trick pony! I bravely outlined Hobie in a mess of color!

Chase was done on the opposite page!
In the end I added the raspberry color for affect!

Theses are the messy pages I started with.
There was actually a lot of texture
after I smashed the pages together!
Do you see Hobie hiding in the color.
Each to their own, it could also be another
face hiding in there!
It might be cool to print these pages and
try some other characters later!

I  often hear artists complaining that their colors aren't
accurate to their paintings when scanned for the blog.
I use my cannon to photograph my pieces for just that  reason!
However sometimes the flash makes the picture
a bit bright so I put it in an edit program to match
up color, hue and brightness as close as possible
to the painted piece. Of course while I'm there
I'm compelled to play with the color too!!!

Check out the  Flickr site for a compilation of juicy Summer of Color art!
My very favorite flavor of Ice Cream is actually pineapple gelato,
what's yours?

Paint Party Friday 15/2 and the Dogs

Yippee  it's Paint Party friday and I get to check out all my artist friends here!
I've had a pretty creative week. Last night photobucket was doing maintenance, my photos wouldn't load, so I'm late posting!!

Meet Clover  my original acrylic! I just love doing several edits when I know I've used a lot of blended color  because you just have no idea how the color will show up in the edits!! Below Clover is Digger, who looks too much like another famous dog, but the edit make him more incognito!! I even made Digger a sister in the pink there!! Color is like a drug for me....it actually brings me elation!!!

Saw Lionel Richie interviewed the other day. It reminded of the song "Three times a lady!" The catalyst for buying a corvette in the seventies...now referred to as my disco car. A memory I'm almost embarrassed to share. It was one of the best cars I ever owned. I drove it for ten years and sold it for a little over what I paid for it!! I loved every moment of driving that car, except the one time I got stranded a few blocks from home in a snow storm. I kept it parked for one full year after my daughter was born! Knowing there was no room for a baby in a two seater I finally sold it!

But oh what fun it was being young with free flowing hair in the wind of a convertible. I felt powerful and proud!! I worked hard, and played hard! Now I'm left with  fun  memories and the feelings married to that song!!  What a joy to remember, yet there is so much more contentment today living the creative life!! Who knew....and if you'd asked me if this is how I'd be living I couldn't have guessed it!!

How about you, do you have a fond youthful memory sparked by a certain song?

Summer of Color week two

This is Skoots, he's showin his bum!
Summer of Color 2012
Mint chocolate chip colors

It was a miserable weekend here in B.C.
The rain was bouncing so high off the pavement, you'd get
soaked just running to the door from your car!
I can't say I don't enjoy the cooler weather
because I really do!

Purely by accident I pondered the question,
 "Sometimes?" this weekend!
Sometimes
Unexpected things happen and there is absolutely nothing we can say!

People get angry about one thing, but they're really mad about something else!

It's difficult to celebrate someone who doesn't deserve it!
We assume someone said something nasty, but it  was never their intention!
We're late by a few minutes, but avoid having an accident that demolishes our car!
We think of a person we haven't seen in ages,
and they pick up the phone and call us first!
We have  family members that are difficult so we avoid confrontation!
We hurt someone  unintentionally, and never know it!
We lift someones spirits but  never know that either!
What are the first few things that pop into
your  head when you think "Sometimes?"

Paint Party Friday 14/2 " Nothing to Say"

Make Sure to click on any of the artwork to see clearer details!

It's Friday, so make sure to visit  all the talented artist on Paint Party Friday!!

The first thing I want to share is this amazing post on Laurie Millers blog called Birth of a Bridge! In this post Laurie walks us through her mind of doubts as she works on a commissioned piece for her city! Every artist can relate to that negative chatter that paralyzes our creative mojo! I promise you won't be disappointed at she intimately shares her process to a happy ending!
Flush of Flowers
I always enjoy when other artists share their process
so I thought this week I might share  a snippet of mine!
I sketched the ugly little  code of arms broach below,
then colored it in pencil crayons!
Every piece of art on this page came from this one piece!!!
Involved were digital edits and color edits and
my basic paint program on windows!!
The above picture turned into the one below!!
Rich in color and detail...it's fun to stare at and look
for possible characters!

I was working on the girls above and decided to take the
older woman out of the picture!!
But when I took her out this man appeared and  totally creeped me out!!!
Has that ever happened to you? Seriously all I did was trace around the woman
and this guy came into the picture!! I tried to get him out.

After much frustration
I decided he would stay in the background of the final piece!
Maybe there is a message here somewhere!!
I have been stewing all week  regarding an
issue with my niece and nephew.
I am so sad for them I just can't get it off my mind!
Nothing can be done, Nothing can be said!
Nothing to say!
